About the Authors
As sophomores in high school, Ana De Almeida Amaral and Izadora Lopez McGawley co-founded their school's first Ethnic Studies course with one other student, Luz Victoria Simon Jasso. They taught and facilitated this faculty-approved elective from the age of 15 until their high school graduation where they then left Ethnic Studies in the hands of a new generation of student leadership.
They created this collection of Liberatory Education Resources so that they could see the empowering environment that they had cultivated in their class being spread to as many schools as possible. Ana and Iza are proud Chicanes who believe that all students have the right to an empowering and inclusive education. Together, they advocate for Liberatory Education in every classroom as a method to combat institutional racism and more. Ana and Iza have been invited by various organizations to share their activism with educators from around the world. Their goal in sharing the story of ethnic studies is to inspire educators to integrate Culturally Responsive/Sustaining/Disru[tive Pedagogy, inclusive curriculum, and anti-racist teaching practices in to every classroom. Below are some of their most notable appearances. |
